Springer Opera House

No visit to Columbus is complete without stepping inside the historic Springer Opera House, the State Theatre of Georgia. Designated a National Historic Landmark—one of only seven U.S. theaters with that honor—the Springer has welcomed audiences since opening its doors in 1871. Once a stop for the greatest stars of the era, the theater has hosted legendary performers including Edwin Booth, Buffalo Bill, John Philip Sousa, Ma Rainey, Ethel Barrymore, Burt Reynolds, and Hal Holbrook.

The Springer Opera House offers a rich lineup of live theater year‑round, producing fourteen engaging shows each season that appeal to visitors of all ages. Performances take place in two unique historic venues: Emily Woodruff Hall, home to the Mainstage Series, and the Dorothy McClure Theatre, which hosts the Children’s Series and the Studio II Series.
