Heritage Hall, situated at Georgia College, stands as the repository for the institution’s distinguished special collections, encompassing the Usery Leadership Gallery and the Pat Peterson Museum Education Room. Special Collections, housed within the Ina Dillard Russell Library, fulfills a pivotal role in documenting the history and culture of Milledgeville/Baldwin County and its adjacent regions, thereby ensuring the historical recognition and representation of diverse communities. Comprising University Archives, Digital Collections, Public Services, Rare Books and Manuscripts, and the Special Collections Galleries located in Heritage Hall, this repository preserves an array of materials, including the Flannery O’Connor papers, Paul D. Coverdell Papers, Carl Vinson Papers, Floyd L. Griffin Papers, W.J. Usery papers, and Mamie Walker/Alice Walker papers. Noteworthy exhibits within the Special Collections Galleries encompass the Flannery O’Connor Gallery of Southern Literary Works, the Golden Slipper Award, and displays featuring prominent figures such as journalist Julia Flisch, Pulitzer Prize winner Alice Walker, and historical showcases of Milledgeville’s contributions to various music genres.
